In My Kitchen… February 2015

In my kitchen…

… we have a colander of baby beetroot that I have been meaning to pickle since we picked them from our old house, a bit over a week ago.  Instead, I just keep tipping them out of the colander as I need it, and then putting them back in.  I did use one in a smoothie bowl for breakfast the other day.beetrootIn my kitchen…

…is our new blender! Huge thanks to Breville for being so patient with me.  About 8 months ago, I won a Breville All-In-One through attending a blogging event, and then shortly after that it blew up. I contacted Breville, but as I had won it there was no warranty, but they were so great and they posted me a new one.  Then, once again I was making a delicious raw chocolate and banana pie, and it blew up.  In the end, after much too-ing and fro-ing, I got a new one, but instead of the All-In-One, I got The Kinetix Wizz.  I’m hoping that this one will stand the test of time!  blenderIn my kitchen…

…there’s a couple of new cook books.  I have a constant Wish List at the Book Depository, and when I feel like I haven’t ordered something online for a little while, or I have some spare cash, or I just want to get something in the mail, I order a new one.  These two are both stunners!cookbooksIn my kitchen…

…there’s a couple of new appliances. I’m planning on doing a post about our kitchen, so I’ll just leave it at that for now.oven dishwasherIn my kitchen…

… there’s some beautiful house warming flowers!  I love love love fresh cut flowers.housewarming flowersIn my kitchen…

… there’s an ever growing supply of photography props.  These are some of my favourites at the moment.

… there is this veggie spiralizer.  I’m absolutely loving making ‘raw pasta’, and turning it into a cool salad.  Some zucchini, some pesto, some cherry tomatoes and a handful of baby spinach is a delicious lunch!

  1. I can’t wait to see the full tour of the kitchen. I am glad I’m not the only one who sets something aside for a purpose and then leaves it there for ages. Got some corn cobs out to cook with the other day and they sat on the bench for a few days!

  2. Beetroot can linger in my kitchen too – in fact I have bought it vacuumed packed lately because I know I am not great at cooking it – I should just put it on the stovetop and be patient! Lots of exciting new appliances and cookbooks for you to play with and my heart gave a little leap at your old fashioned beaters – wish I had use enough to justify having some in our kitchen

  3. Hi there Clare… I saw those vegie spiralisers advertised and wondered if they were any good. Sounds like you love yours?? Purring at your new stove! And aren’t those flowers lovely! Happy cooking xo

    1. Thanks Jan. That beater gets used surprisingly often! I bought the spiraliser on ebay. Just search Betty Bossi.

  4. Congratulations on the new kitchen, wishing you many hours of joy creating in it. Also hope the new Breville holds up; your experience with the other two certainly doesn’t speak well for that model!!

  5. Hi Clare, I can’t wait to see your new kitchen. I’m loving the extra wide oven preview!!
I’m a big fan of Ottolenghi’s ‘Plenty’ so I look forward to hearing your thoughts about this next book 🙂
Fresh flowers always make a room so bright and happy. Yours a just gorgeous.
    Congratulations on the new house!
    Lisa x

  6. How wonderful for you to have the kitchen up and running! Interesting about the Breville issue, I’ve returned a couple of their items after being quite disappointed. Can’t wait to see your post about kitchen appliances etc. Very handy with us in the planning stages. Can never have enough fresh flowers. Congratulations, all looks great!

    1. Interesting to hear about your Breville experience, I’m honestly glad I didn’t pay for them, but I’m loving the new blender.

  7. Love the new cooker and hope you have many many years of wonderful cooking and baking. The old beater is to die for and if you every want it to have a new home… I asked first. 🙂

  8. What a saga with the blender! I was only just lamenting the fact that mine is broken too (I wanted to whiz up some frozen banana and raspberries for dessert).
Your kitchen looks gorgeous so I can’t wait to take a full tour on your upcoming post. x

  9. Just LOOK at your new kitchen, Clare! With the huge oven and the rangehood and the new dishwasher and all that lovely light! I’m so excited you’re finally in, love. Glad you finally got a blender that works, and I’ve been loaned the Plenty More cookbook – I think it’s fabulous! 🙂

  10. Clare, I’m rejoicing over your new stove — woohoo! Can’t imagine having small appliances blow up, though… hope it wasn’t too much of a mess (or frustration mid-recipe!) Your side-handled hand mixer and vintage syrup dispenser are treasures. Enjoy your props and updated kitchen!
