Tasmania was a wonderful way to end 2012 and begin 2013. The combination of great food, the stunning natural environment, and the jaw dropping, awe-inspiring MONA.
New Years morning, we escaped The Falls Festival as early as we could and found a lovely, but very formal restaurant, the only one open, on Salamanca Place to eat breakfast.
The yachts from the Sydney to Hobart were in town, so we took some time to walk along the busy water front and peruse the boats.
MONA has me lost for words, the private collection, displayed in the tomb like gallery is… well, really there are no words. At some points I have never felt so sick, others inspired and finally shocked. These photos were some of my favourite pieces but are no way an indication of the wonderment that is housed in this space.
On the morning of the 2nd of January, whilst wasting time before heading to the airport we decided to take a drive up Mount Wellington. Just a quick reminder for those in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s summer here now, we’re currently in the middle of a heat wave, and there are fires throughout a lot of the country.
While we were standing on the top of Mount Wellington, it started to SNOW!
In this photo, you can, if you look closely, see J throwing a snow ball at me.
How are the extreme temperatures treating you? Have you been to MONA, or another controversial exhibition?
That breakfast food looks amazing. And yes – I saw the snowball. Unbelievable! xx

I love Tassie, and am a little heart sick for it with the bush fires that tore through it just days after it snowed. It is a place of extremes for sure.
MONA is one of my must go places each time I am in Hobart. I am in awe of it every single time.

I feel horrible about the fires there! Our whole country has so many extremes! I feel like MONA is a place that deserves many visits.

So envious of your Tasmanian trip. You are dead right to start the day with a decent breakfast – it sets you up for whatever the day throws at you – raging temperatures or snowballs 🙂

The MONA does sound and look amazing.
I remember taking a shortcut over the mountains in Austria in the middle of summer on our motorbike and it started to snow. Not what you expect in summer certainly.

Your tassie updates are making me so exciting for our mid year trip. I am a little concerned with the bushfires this January though… hopefully it will not cause too much permanent damage.
